Happy December !
December is a month for nostalgia, isn’t it?
Not that I need much nudging in that direction these days. The axiom that aging brings a more reflective and reminiscing mind is true. We can wile away hours in reverie. Or looking up old friends and flames on facebook. It’s rather lovely but we do have to be mindful of its irresistible allure!
It’s not advisable by the way…. looking up old flames on facebook. Rather like opening Pandora’s Box, we might discover things about them we can’t un-know. Trust me, it’s creepy and almost never rewarding. A client told me recently how she’d looked up an old flame and learned he’d just died of some horrible disease and she was depressed for days afterwards.
The Collective Oppression of the Season
Even if you opt out of most things Christmassy, you’re still going to be inundated with the collective energies that are constellated at this time of year. The person who declares they are unaffected by the whoopla of the Christmas season is the person who is in determined denial. You absolutely will not escape its mighty grip. The best policy is to develop a strategy to manage it.
For many, Christmas/New Years is so stressful that that feeling tends to blot out any competing others, such as, joy, charity and renewal. The strain of the financial and social pretense pressures drives many to be neglectful/cruel to their bodies, families and neighbours.
The holiday season is a great time to practice all those stress reducing intentions we know we should do but always seem to desert us at just the moment we need them most! If nothing else, build in quality alone time to do simple normal things with people you want to do it with, get plenty of rest and eat your green vegetables.
Spend Time Away from the Hot Spots
If you’re spending this season alone, consider spending time at your local public library and community centres. These are peaceful, neutral places for singles to go where you aren’t inundated with musack, shopping, frenetic energy and crowded washrooms. Besides, you might make some new friends brightening the prospect of 2020.
We’ll experience Winter Solstice on December 21st, which in the northern hemisphere translates to the shortest day of the year.
In the Tarot, the Winter Solstice is represented by the Sun card which depicts the birth of the twin gods of the solar cycle. The Sun is born from the dark womb of the darkest night in the year, and on that day the hours of sunlight begin to lengthen and the power and strength of the sun begins its rebirth.
Unusual Activities in December
Connect with friends you haven’t spoken to all year; buy odd stuff; take holidays and celebrate year’s end. It’s a joyful, painful, exhilarating, depressing and spiritual time for millions around the world and that energy can be usurped to claim your own renewal and healing.
Be mindful of the language you use to express your feelings and ideas. Your expressions this month will carry tentacles of unfoldment into your future. Go for long walks, take pictures, call people you haven’t spoken to in a while – make it special for yourself.
I wish you a safe and spiritual holiday season. The coming month will be ramping up to very high energy in prep for 2020. Astrologically it promises to be a year of tremendous change so this is the perfect opportunity to get prepared.
Blessings Kathleen
