Keeping Up Your Spirits in November
The tarot deck comprises a series of images which were created to depict and describe our Soul’s journey to realization, knowledge and wisdom. The images are sequential, symbolic and dream-like. The sequence is both descriptive and prescriptive. The more you study and comprehend the tarot, the more skeptical you become that it was simply a deck of cards designed for playing and gambling. The fact that no one knows who created it and for what purpose, should delight even the most blasé among us. Many refined, sophisticated and creative thinkers over the past 600+ years have been drawn to this tool for contemplation, reflection and inspiration. I’m confident it wasn’t because it was a fun game.
Civilization is far more ancient than we have documentation. A theory (well-known and respected by spiritualists whose beliefs are situated outside the norm), is gradually shifting into academic circles: That there existed, alongside unevolved groups of humans, a race who were light-years more advanced in every field than their neighbouring sisters and brothers. This would explain where, why and how the Tarot was created. As a psycho-spiritual tool, describing and prescribing a path to enlightenment in picture form, simplifying concepts for undeveloped folk to grasp.
Our Soul Embodies for a Reason
Surely this earthly experience isn’t just an abysmally bad cosmic joke? Embodiment is a tough nut which is why I believe that when you choose on the earth plane to act selflessly, it garners higher points in spiritual currency. The choices you make in embodiment to help others, and to act in a manner that does not benefit you in the least, will count mightily in the spirit kingdom when you pass back that way again. As all of us will inevitably do.
When we’re in spirit form, it’s much easier to be our best self. Our motives and intentions are transparent for all to witness and the need to survive is removed from the equation. Spiritual currency is acquired, not by grasping, cheating and hoarding but by sharing, selflessness, and honour.
As a Mortal, Self-focus is a Necessity for Survival
Imperatives like food, water and protection from the elements crash against even the best of intentions. The hierarchy of needs described by Maslow in the 1950’s explained how our needs, and where we place on the socio-economic scale, impact our ability to achieve the loftier planes of creativity, spirituality and individuality. If you’ve ever contemplated what your soul’s purpose here on earth was, you know you were among the minority of the earth’s privileged to reach that enviable status when all your bodily needs were fulfilled. It’s what we, at present affectionately refer to as, “first world concerns”.
At some point in our lives, we wonder if there is something that embodiment reveals that our soul is unable to grasp any other way. In physical form, we experience contrariness, selfishness, limitation, and suffering. We experience desire, will and decision. In spiritual terms, this translates into force, discrimination, and magnetism.
Consequences of Our Soul-Force in Embodiment
If we didn’t have an opportunity to experience the consequences of our soul-force in embodiment, we couldn’t fully perceive the light of right purpose and co-operation. Before we embodied, I’m pretty sure we all possessed the highest intentions to be good, to make a positive difference, to spread the word of divine love. Once we arrived, however, sadly the veil of illusion drops and we forget those light-bringing, angelic, celestial intentions. That first demand of hunger, pain and terror grip us and our entire being is focused on determining how to be satiated, happy and safe. How NOT to feel that way ever again.
The Tarot is rich with teachings about these spiritual laws. Be careful what you wish for is one its primary tenets. Your desires will make up the bars of your prisons. Pay attention to all your perceptions especially those that come to you through your spiritual perceptions such as dreams and visions. An in- depth study of the Tarot will open these special doors of spiritual perception. This is one of the many reasons why as a divination tool, it carries a special power in lighting the path that you have found yourself on in the present and the path ahead. It’s a sacred text in picture form and its guidance is life changing. You don’t have to be a reader or even necessarily want to be one to benefit from its teachings.
