Enjoy A Beautiful August!
Do You Believe in Destiny and Fate?
Most people believe in destiny. Our strong, possibly unconscious belief in it can catch us by surprise when something either wonderful or terrible happens.
The notion makes us feel loved when that fateful event is joyful, and it makes us feel lonely and rejected when the outcome is devastating.
“Why do all these terrible things keep happening to me when I always try to be a good person?”, we lament. Something is not right in the world when we choose to be good and can’t seem to catch a break. The notion of fate can then make us feel targeted and sometimes this “monkey on our backs”, or “dark cloud” doesn’t seem to move off soon enough!
Aside from good luck or bad, what makes us think something was fated to happen? Is it because there was a remarkably small window of timing for the wondrous event to take place? Is it because we dreamed of the happening beforehand? Or perhaps because it feels like no matter what we do, the outcome is habitually positive or negative? Indeed, if everything in our lives is fated to be, why make any effort at all?
Who is Pulling the Strings of Our Destiny?
A deity, ourselves or some other machination that is comprised of many factors and influences? For example, if it is my fate to meet you, we must share a thread of common fate which has led us to this point of joining. Fate therefore is comprised of many threads and if any of those single threads were to break then our joining would be missed.
We have all met someone we’ve felt a special connection to while noticing that the timing for this opportune connection was annoyingly off-kilter. One of us was on our way out of town, or had just gotten married, or on our death bed. Of course, that was our fate but that won’t stop us from groaning, “Why now?” Being at the right place at the right time is everything.
Fate drives us to reach more deeply into our emotional core where fear and desire wage a bloody war.
There is a dearth of books on the market that offer the delectable promise that if you do such and such – visioning a beautiful and abundant future for example, it will manifest. How do we reconcile this notion when that simply isn’t the case most of the time? The truth is that terrible things do happen to good people. And glorious things do happen to selfish bastards.
The Wheel of Fortune
Are there ways we can glimpse into our fated future?
I’m a specialist in this regard since many do consult me as an oracle to glimpse their fate. Being placed in the occasionally, unfortunate position to describe a less than desirable fated future is a challenge. So many clients over the years have exclaimed, dismayed, that they had just spoken with another psychic who promised a more rosey outcome. Many psychics find it an unsavory and unwise business practice to relate an ill begotten fate, so they opt for the happy ending narrative. The problem with this approach is that it tends to lift a client’s expectations unrealistically which is only delaying the disappointment that is inevitable down the road.
The Tarot features a card which specifically addresses this concept of fate; The Wheel of Fortune, Number 10 in the Major Arcana (Major Secrets),
“When you get this card in a reading, it suggests your life is in the hands of the Fates-Fortune is smiling on you, and you may as well surrender to the flow, because something remarkable-a big event-is takikng place. As if you were on a ferris wheel carrying you up to the top of the world, you are swept into prominence in some way. Although Fate does not in any sense control our lives, when something has been wished for and worked toward, it is the Goddess Fortuna who decides on the timing of the event. The Wheel of Fortune signifies a high point, a wish coming true, the manifestation of something anticipated.” (Motherpeace by Vicki Noble)
In a classic interpretation, the Wheel of Fortune heralds a change which is being perpetrated from outside our realm of control. It might work best for us (from a fated perspective) if we suffer now because that is the mechanism that will initiate changes in our lives, ultimately for the better. Sadly, in a reading today, that won’t be a welcome bit of news. It might, for example, take decades for the good of the bad to become evident. Who wants to embrace misery until the good makes its welcome appearance? Don’t shoot the messenger is all I ask.
Adapting to Change
We don’t have control over everything. There are times in our lives when, for some mysterious reason, it becomes opportune to be given that message. When fate steps in to throw us a curve ball, it’s an opportunity to contemplate our lives from a fresh perspective. Maybe fate’s true purpose is to urge us to ask ourselves important questions, such as,
“Is what I think I want, really what I want?”
“Am I getting what I asked for and didn’t realize it?”
“What have I been missing that is more about what I need as opposed to what I want?”
“Am I pushing for an outcome that the universe is declaring loud and clear, THIS IS NOT FOR YOU?”
When Lady Fortuna takes charge of our lives, it’s likely more a lesson about adapting to change. Is there a way to know your fate? Knowing your fate beforehand is an integral part of your fated future. We might not be able to alter our fate but it can help when we’re prepared.
The best description of fate I ever heard was that it represents a dance between opportunity and character. Being prepared is character, being in the right place at the right time is opportunity.

The videos aren’t typically longer than 10 min and give you a fairly good idea about how I process a question and interpret the cards turned over during the course of the reading. Testimonial Snippet
"I had a new year tarot card reading with Kathleen in January 2020. I enjoyed her intuition and calm style. I was quite surprised to hear that the cards suggested I'd be moving early summer (May/June). But, after many attempts at making offers on houses in competition situations starting at the end of Feb, and an unforeseen reason to focus all our energy on purchasing a house, we have officially purchased a home this Friday, May 15! We will be getting possession of our new home May 30! Kathleen was very responsive to email inquiries and phone calls prior to purchasing a reading with her. During the reading, I asked 2 main questions and she pulled cards for both. I enjoy her video/blogs/newsletters about intuition, psychic abilities etc."
