There is nothing like the advent of Spring to lift flagging spirits. It makes us want to run with the fresh wind, breath in deeply the earth coming back to life and smile at the brilliant spring sun shining down on us. We just had to get on our bicycles this week despite the weather remaining uncharacteristically chilly for March here in Victoria.

In the Tarot, Spring is represented by the Lovers card which symbolizes relationships, soul connections and the attraction/challenge of blending opposites. The Lovers card reminds us to celebrate desire, fantasy and fertility. When we smell the earth coming alive, our blood stirs, we’re aroused and restless. In ancient times rituals helped communities to ground these powerful energies. Nowadays we need to construct our own!

It is through our lover relationships that we’re offered a profound opportunity to learn something about ourselves; the good, bad and ugly. Be mindful that when you’re in the mood to fall in love (like now) 99 out of 100 will be perfect, but when we’re NOT in the mood for love 99 out of 100 won’t even scrape our lofty standards. It’s all about where we’re at emotionally. It’s no coincidence that most couples meet and fall in the love in the spring.

Spiritual Communication & the Language of Symbols

The most evolved guides in the celestial realm communicate to us through the language of symbols which is why universal and personal symbols are a vital language to understand. In order to respond in ways that are meant for your highest and best in accordance with the spiritual guidance that’s being passed to you every day and night in the form of dreams, you need to be assured that your interpretations are accurate.

Symbols are different from signs. Signs have a singular meaning whereas a symbol is multifaceted. A road sign for example, has only one meaning but the number 9 has many meanings, both collective and personal. If you see 9 everywhere, you might ask yourself what cycle has completed in your life or what has reached its zenith and simply can’t get any better or in fact may turn around into decline. Numbers are truly a timeless language and every number carries a rich store of meaning! Celestial bodies, elements, animals all carry meaning when conveyed to us as symbols.

Symbols appear regularly in our dreams, visions, and synchronicity. Synchronicity is a meaningful coincidence whereby two events feel related but are non-causal. For example, you may have misplaced an item in the AM and later that same day a friend excitedly mentions she just bought this item. Shopping after meeting with your friend, someone drops that same item in front of you at the cashier. That night, this item features in your dream. It would be helpful to know what this item means as a symbol, both personally and collectively since you know it is conveying a message to you! That’s the power of synchronicity.

When a symbol (which may be a number, an animal, a word, an object) appears several times, in several different ways to us, spirit is getting insistent. It may appear in a dream, in a Freudian slip, and on a licence plate all in the same day. A symbol that appears multiple times to you is demanding your attention. There may be a message in this item/symbol that may transform your life dramatically, possibly even one that will shift you back on your destiny path or by interpreting its meaning you are saved from making a terrible mistake.

A Vision of a Peony

There are times when I receive a symbol from spirit to convey to a client. It may be a flower, a letter, number or object. I’ve learned to pay attention when it appears because although the symbol doesn’t carry a special meaning to me, it often does for a client.

Throughout a session with one client I kept seeing a beautiful peony in bloom and when I described the flower, he became very excited and said, “That bush was growing outside my grandmother’s house! That’s from my grandma!” It was such a warm and comforting symbol for him, it would have been a shame to miss it.

Symbols appear to us individually and collectively. There are symbols of our times that appear to transmit messages from the celestial realm. Crop circles and deep, complete and perfectly round sink holes that have been suddenly and inexplicably appearing in the earth. You cannot see the bottom of these cavernous holes. What do circles mean archetypically? To name just a few; the earth, the sun, womb, cycles, and justice. Sink holes may point to dark secrets about to be revealed, or having the bottom drop out of your life unexpectedly.

Spiritual Messages Appear in a Variety of Places

Like a dream that we have over and over, our guides in the celestial realm ramp the drama until we just can’t ignore them any longer. They needn’t always be warnings. Sometimes messages are positive and uplifting particularly if we’ve been feeling discouraged and blue.

What symbols have been appearing to you in your dreams and waking life? If you look at your life as a compilation of symbols, what is the underlying message? You might ask why spirit is so cryptic in its language. Why not just spit it out in plain English? Likely the message is too multilayered and complex to convey in simple language so spirit must present us with a symbol which can convey such a message expediently and succinctly.

As we move through a time that promises to be challenging in its constant change, acknowledging and interpreting the symbols personally and collectively will become a critical skill. When feeling confused or fearful, remember to say, “I need the aid, and the guidance, and influence of spiritual powers.” Observe, listen, trust and understand your symbols. The more you work on developing this skill the better you will be at receiving and understanding the spiritual messages you are receiving. I promise once you begin this process, you’ll wonder why you never did it before. It enriches your life on so many levels it would be impossible to list all the benefits.
